RE: Air brakes?
I have listened for leaks and found nothing. I know that there must some small leaks because the system losses pressure over night.
Where might I find a manual for the governor?
Air brakes?
I developed a problem with my airbrakes last week. Perhaps someone out there can direct me to a resource for airbrakes on a freightliner chassis with a 270 Cummins. The problem occurs when first started. the air won't charge. The first time I still had enough air to release the brakes and as I was moving it to a better place to park, the compressor came on line and worked fine until I stopped for fuel. Again, I had enough air to release the brakes and get away from the pumps but this time it did not recharge as I moved it. the next day I charged the air from an outside source. The green needle came up but the orange one didn't move. I drove it about 1/4 mi with the 2nd compressor supplying the air when the onboard compressor again kicked in and the orange needle came up to match the green. the onboard compressor maintained charge for the rest of the trip. It is now sitting in my drive awaiting some attention before it goes anywhere else. I checked it this evening and sure enough, the onboard compressor is not charging. I'm assuming that there is a pressure switch that engages the compressor and that it must have picked up some contamination? Any ideas for information to guide my search and further my understanding?
RE: My 1st really big screw-up....at least with my new RV
Mileage is relative. If you are only moving once every 2-3 months, it makes sense to tow a car that gets great mileage. However; if you are constantly on the move, you might get better mileage with a truck. My dp gets about 10 mpg.
My bil truck and 5er gets about 9.5mpg. My set up is faster. He probably has a better layout for living. Get what you want, everybody is going to cry about fuel prices.
RE: Gas, The Economy and Jobs
Where I work, there are many fellow employees that travel up to 50 miles to and from work each day. Compare that with a move every 3 or four months. Sure a dp is going to be expensive to move 500 miles but if you only do it 4 times a year you are still better off than driving to work every day. Enjoy!
RE: is there a bounder chat page
Ok i understand all about the fulcrum idea but are you putting any thing heavier than a Cummins back there? My dp doesnt seem to lift in winds.

As I make plans for fultiming, the one question I have not seen addressed on this forum is "What are your plans when age or health prevent you from traveling?"

I recently purchased Support Your RV Lifestyle by Jaimie Hall. I find it to be thorough and helpful in planning own entrance into fulltiming.
